The first line in defence when securing your home is making sure you have quality locks on your windows and doors. According to the Home Office, one third of all burglaries occur through windows at the back of your home, either through an open window or with the burglar breaking the glass, opening the latch and climbing in. Simple additional security measures such as window locks would prevent many of these burglaries. |

A rim latch (Yale type) on your front door is not sufficient in itself to protect your home. The door should also be fitted with a 5 lever mortice deadlock, though insurance companies will accept a rim automatic deadlock; both must be to British Standard 3621 or the equivalent European Standard EN12209. Quality locks are only as strong as the doors and frames to which they are attached. More... |

Hamilton Locksmith and Carpentry Services of Swindon, Wiltshire can help you secure your wooden casement windows, wooden sliding sash windows, Metal Crittal Windows, Aluminium Windows and Louvre Windows. In many cases it is not possible to retro-fit any extra locks to UPVC windows. This is because the material used is not strong enough to support a metal lock fitted with steel screws. It could also damage the window and perhaps invalidate any existing warranty. More... |
